Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatologists, surgical oncologists, general surgeons, medical oncologists, and oncology nurses involved in the management of patients with melanoma.

Purpose

To present the advances in treatment modalities for melanoma

Learning Objectives

After completion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

  • Describe the evolution of the AJCC staging system, including the rationale behind planned revisions underway
  • Describe adjuvant and neoadjuvant opportunities and hurdles in melanoma
  • Explain strategies for managing side effects in patients receiving high-dose IFN alfa-2b therapy
  • Describe the role of surgery in management of limited distant metastatic melanoma
  • Explain the technique of isolated limb perfusion
  • Describe the role of isolated limb perfusion in the treatment of multiple bulky in-transit melanoma metastases limited to the extremities
